Privacy Policy
Dev Gaatha is published by Confidant PA Limited, a company registered in the United Kingdom. We built the app so that it works without an account and keeps your choices on your own phone. This page explains the small amount of information that does leave your device, and why.
No account, no profile
There is no sign-in. The god you follow, your language and city, the stories you have watched, your aarti and Chalisa streaks, your jap count, any family name you type on a greeting card, a picture of your own that you choose to put on a card, the temples you have visited in “Temple darshan”, and your rashi (with the birth date and time if you use them to find it) are stored only on your phone. We do not receive them and we do not build a profile of you.

Advertising
The app is free and shows ads through Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google receives your device's advertising ID, your IP address (from which an approximate location can be inferred), basic device information and how you interact with ads. We request ads rated for all audiences (G) and block sensitive categories. Where the law requires it, for example in the UK and EEA, you are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change that choice later. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings. Google's use of this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy and at How Google uses information from apps that use its services.

Anonymous usage measurement
To understand which stories and features people actually use, the app records anonymous events with Google Analytics for Firebase: for example that a story was started or finished, a game was played, an aarti was marked done, or a festival page was opened. Each event carries only the kind of action and simple labels such as the deity, the chapter number and the app language.
We deliberately switch off the identifiers that would let anyone follow you: no advertising ID, no Android device ID, no account and no user profile are used for this measurement, and nothing you type in the app is ever sent. Google assigns each installation a random identifier so that repeat visits can be counted; it does not identify you and is reset if you reinstall the app. These records are deleted automatically after 14 months.

Stories, panchang and festival texts
Videos, the story catalogue, the panchang and festival kathas are delivered from Cloudflare's servers. Like any web server, Cloudflare sees your IP address when your phone downloads them. We do not use this to identify you.
The temple pictures in “Temple darshan” are real photographs from Wikimedia Commons, shown under their free licences with the photographer named beside each one. Wallpapers and the pictures on greeting cards are paintings made for the app.
Anonymous daily counters
When you finish a story, complete the aarti or read the Chalisa, the app adds one to a shared total for that day, which is how it can say "1,240 devotees today". Only the day and the kind of action are sent. No identifier, name or device information is attached.
Notifications, downloads and read-aloud
Morning, festival and fast reminders are scheduled on your phone itself; we run no push-notification server. Stories you save for offline viewing are kept in the app's own storage on your phone and are removed when you delete them or uninstall the app. "Listen" plays recordings made by our own narrator, delivered from the same servers as the videos. The app never uses your microphone, contacts or precise location. Your photo library — and, on iPhone, the camera if you pick “Take Photo” — is opened only when you choose “Use my own picture” for a greeting card or status; that picture is kept on your phone and is never uploaded. Saving a card or a wallpaper adds a picture to your phone's gallery; setting a wallpaper changes it only when you ask.
Children
Dev Gaatha is intended for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children.
Corrections and suggestions you choose to send
If you send a correction or a story suggestion from the app, we receive what you write, the story or festival it is about, and the app language. The form has no field for an email address, phone number or name — please do not type personal details into the message. Messages are kept on our own server so that we can check and fix the stories; they are not sold or shared. The network address of your connection is used for a moment to stop spam and is never stored. To have a message deleted, write to us with roughly when you sent it.

Your choices and deleting data
We hold nothing that identifies you, so there is no account to close and no file we can look up by name. You can stop all measurement at any time by uninstalling the app, which also removes everything it stored on your phone. Usage records are deleted automatically after 14 months. In Android's settings you can reset or delete your advertising ID, which affects the ads you are shown. Notifications can be turned off in the app's मेरा tab or in Android's settings.
